Cellar Door at Tilbrook Estate

Come and visit our rustic cellar door and winery in the old Onkaparinga Woollen Mill. This is in the historic Adelaide Hills town of Lobethal. Built in the late 1890’s, our tall, red brick building previously housed machinery for fluffing up blankets and was known as the “raising room”. It is now home to one of the smallest wineries in the Adelaide Hills. We do the whole process from pressing the grapes, to fermenting & maturing, through to bottling. Plus the cellar door equals a unique experience all under one roof!

Tilbrook Estate wines can be purchased from our online wine store, Wines & Shop, or from our cellar door in Lobethal.

Also open to visitors in the Mill are the micro brewery Lobethal Bierhaus, and another cellar door Robert Johnson Vineyards. For those interested in history, there’s The Old Woollen Mill Museum, which is open by appointment.

When you visit us, you can see right into our working winery, talk with the winemaker, and taste wines that are served in some of the best restaurants and independent wine merchants around Australia. We also export a little to an independent wine merchant in the East of England, called Nethergate Wines! Just recently The Wine Stable, in Singapore, also took on our wines.

Wood oven pizzas!

On weekends, and Public Holidays, we do wood oven pizzas, and Adelaide Hills gourmet platters. Over 70% of our produce is sourced from growers and producers in the Adelaide Hills! Please see Menu tab for details. If the weather is fine we have seating outside in our courtyard or there is a rustic space inside the winery in the barrel “hall” if the weather doesn’t suit. Please make sure to book so you won’t be disappointed if we have run out, or if you require gluten free bases. Please allow 15 minutes for us to make and cook your pizza or platter, unless it is unexpectedly busy in which case it may take longer. For groups please allow a minimum of 30 minutes to bring your freshly made food out.

On Fridays we are open 1pm – 4pm by appointment, for tastings and sales. However, it is best to book to make sure we are there! During the week James is often there, especially during Vintage or when he is bottling the next fabulous wine. If you see his Golf or the A board is out, please drop in, or give us a call! Some days our wine dog, Lucy, is there to greet you as well  as the winemaker!

“A unique and quirky little winery”  – Visited October 2016

I visited this winery for some wine tasting and lunch with friends today. If you want a big flash winery that has all the modern (and expensive) dining and wine tasting facilities, then don’t come here. If you want a unique experience, tasting wine that not only tastes great but is affordable too and at the same time enjoy a great wood fired pizza sitting amongst the wine barrels, or outside if the weather is good, then come to Tilbrook Estate. James really looked us (sic) and is obviously very proud of his wines and so he should be. I will also mention the waitress that also looked after us very well and was very pleasant. A great afternoon, we really loved it.

Please make sure to book by Thursday 9.00 am if at all possible. We source all our produce on Thursdays so we may not be able to take your booking after this, if we don’t have enough food to go around!

Udder Delights brie and blue cheese. Made right next door to us! In perfect condition straight from the factory!

Woodside Cheese Wrights chevre. Goats milk chevre, this is a mild spreadable cheese. Goes beautifully with honey or olive oil.

Kris Lloyd Artisan Cheese Maker bush buff. Buffalo milk chevre, herbed with bush tomato. An amazing cheese! Made by the head cheese maker at WCW.

Harris smoked salmon from Hahndorf. Their origins date back to a tiny coastal village in Suffolk called Orford where Richard Pinney set up a smokehouse in 1959, then his grandson moved to Australia and set up Springs Smoked Salmon in Mt Barker. Then he established Harris in Hahndorf and the quality is the best! Orford is also famed for its castle, which Henry II built, and also having TV star Ruth Watson’s Crown and Castle hotel. I am from Suffolk and I love Orford. I highly recommend visiting next time you are in England!

Skara hungarian salami and chorizo is made in Mt Barker, by Anthony Skara and his team.

Baylies plain lavash. Baylies started in Strathalbyn but moved to Woodside 10 years ago.
