1. Cellar Door

We finished building our environmentally / eco-friendly cellar door in 2021. It is zero net carbon and powered by solar PV and thermal. Second to our passion for wine is our passion for sustainable building design and materials, as well as renewable energy.

Thermal modelling on our cellar door, which is partially sunk into a hillside, shows a mean annual temperature of around 22℃. Part of our aim in building this cellar door is to show people that building sustainably needn’t cost the earth and ongoing energy cost can be minimal. You’ll be amazed to learn that the whole build was done for $275,000! Plus our average energy bill is just $200 (bearing in mind our kitchen is all electrical), because we use the solar PV whilst we are open and then pump the rest back into the grid.

Our beautiful Kauri pine tables were crafted by Roger Dyer, a Ballarat artisan and long time friend, from old vinegar vats. You’ll also be treated to amazing views over the upper Onkaparinga Valley. You’ll see orchards, vineyards, pastures, kangaroos, cattle, native birds plus be “up in the clouds” on a wet, wintry day, or in amongst it on a sunny day with nature all around!

Tasting at Tilbrook Estate

Bookings are highly recommended. All tastings are seated hosted tastings. We offer you a flight of 6 wines from our wine range to taste for $15 pp or choose to taste the full range including Reserve wines for $20 pp. All tastings include our new Estate wines and our “hope!” range. After the bushfire these were wines were sold to us at cost, so we could get back on our feet. We had no grapes in Vintage 2020, less than a tonne in 2021, a third of our usual in 2022, half in 2023 and 2024. We are on the path to recovery but it takes time.

The “hope!”  label name came from all the amazing acts of generosity from individuals and companies that gave us “hope!” that we would be able to carry on. Now visitors to our cellar door are doing the same by contributing to the rejuvenation and replanting of our vineyard and rebuilding of our winery.

Tastings are between 45 minutes long and an hour. Please book here for tastings for groups less than 7 people. For larger groups between 7 and 30 people, please contact us. If you would like to have a tasting followed by lunch, this is now only available to groups of up to 8 people: – please go to the Book Now button under the Lunch heading.

We are open Saturday and Sunday and most Public Holidays for tastings, sales and Italian food by internationally awarded pizza guru, Enrico Sgarbossa. We are also open Fridays for dinner from 5.30 to 8.30pm (see below to book)
