Cellar Door

We finished building our environmentally / eco-friendly cellar door in 2021. It is zero net carbon and powered by solar PV and thermal. Second to our passion for wine is our passion for sustainable building design and materials, as well as renewable energy.

Thermal modelling on our cellar door, which is partially sunk into a hillside, shows it averages a temperature of around 22℃. Part of our aim in building this cellar door is to show people how to build sustainably and with no ongoing energy costs. You’ll be amazed to learn that the whole build was done for the same price as an average new build! Plus our energy bill for December 2022 was just $10, because we used all that solar PV whilst we were open and then pumped the rest back into the grid.

Our beautiful custom made Kauri pine tables were crafted by Roger Dyer, a Ballarat artisan and long time friend, from old Kauri pine vinegar vats. You’ll also be treated to amazing views over the upper Onkaparinga Valley. You’ll see orchards, vineyards, pastures, kangaroos, cattle, native birds plus be “up in the clouds” on a wet, wintry day, or in amongst it on a sunny day with nature all around!

Bookings are highly recommended. All tastings are seated hosted tastings. We offer you the whole of our “hope!’ wine range to taste . After the bushfire these were all wines that had been given to us unlabeled or sold to us at cost, so we could get back on our feet and have our own label on them. We had no grapes in Vintage 2020, less than a tonne in 2021 and a third of our usual in 2022. We are on the path to recovery but it takes time.

The name came from all the amazing acts of generosity from individuals and companies that gave us “hope!” that we would be able to carry on. Now visitors to our cellar door are doing the same by contributing to the rejuvenation and replanting of our vineyard and rebuilding of our winery.

Tastings are between 45 minutes long and an hour. Please book here for tastings for groups less than 9 people. For larger groups between 9 and 30 people, please contact us. If you would like to have a tasting followed by lunch, this is now only available to groups of up to 8 people: – please go to the Book Now button under the Lunch heading. We are open Saturday and Sunday and most Public Holidays for tastings, sales and Italian food by internationally awarded pizza guru, Enrico Sgarbossa.

Enjoy lunch by the fire in our beautiful cellar door with amazing views or relax outside during the warmer months. We are now open Saturdays, Sundays and Public Holidays for tastings and sales and we serve stone cooked pizzas, made by internationally awarded pizza guru, Enrico Sgarbossa, between 12 and 3.30pm on weekends. GIFT CARDS

We now offer gift cards! Ideal as presents these can be redeemed for anything we sell in the cellar door: tastings, lunch and wine. Please have a look on our wine store: – tastings are $10 pp and for lunch look at the menu then decide how much you would like to give. For example two tastings, antipasto for two and a Margherita and Diavolo pizza come to $100, so you could buy two $50 vouchers to cover that cost.
